The Los Angeles Lakers and the Denver Nuggets have been at odds since their 2023 Western Conference Finals series. It wasn’t just the 4-0 sweep that ignited the competition, but also the back-and-forth banter between the two teams.
Nuggets head coach Michael Malone was particularly vocal, constantly taking shots at the Lakers from the NBA playoffs all the way to their victory parade. This led to reactions from Lakers members like Darvin Ham, LeBron James, and Anthony Davis. The back and forth hasn’t stopped since, and it seems like a new rivalry is born.
Just two days before last night’s season opener, LeBron James issued a cryptic message directed towards the Nuggets.
“There will be a time where everybody will get it.”
But while the Lakers talked the talk, they weren’t able to walk the walk in the first game of the 2023-24 regular season, as the Nuggets easily fought off the Los Angeles Lakers 119-107. Nikola Jokić led the Nuggets with 39 points, 13 rebounds, and 11 assists and once again was unstoppable, while also making a number of key plays down the stretch.
Towards the end of the game, Nuggets fans decided to join into the fun and banter between the two teams, and started singing ‘who’s your daddy?!’.
