Anthony Edwards Wants To Become The First NBA Player To Also Play In The NFL

Fans often think about which NBA players may also have the potential to be pro football players, and vice versa.

This is obviously when LeBron James comes into mind. As we know, LeBron was a great high school football player, good enough to be an All-State player in his sophomore year. He even got recruited by Urban Meyer, who at that time, was the wide receivers coach at Notre Dame.

Then, years later, during the 2011 NBA lockout James actually trained to be an NFL player, not knowing how long the lockout would last. Apparently, Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones even had a contract ready for LeBron to sign.

So for now, James most likely came closest to actually being the first NBA player in the NFL. This however now seems a personal goal from Anthony Edwards. The young Timberwolves star believes he can become the first athlete to play in both the NBA and NFL.

During his appearance on “Open Thoughts,” host Marco Summers asked the All-Star guard if he could still play football and if there’s ever been a player to play in both leagues. Edwards confidently responded:

“I think I might be the first one.”

While also playing in the NFL seems to be a goal for Edwards, this won’t happen anytime soon, at least not until he’s “handled his business in the NBA.”:

“As a team, [the] Minnesota [Timberwolves] organization, we want to win a championship. After that, we’ll figure that out,”
