This year’s rookie class is filled with promising talents making noise in the basketball world, and one such rookie is Ausar Thompson, the No. 5 overall pick by the Detroit Pistons.

Thompson is proving his worth as a top 5 pick in the recent draft. His stats aren’t exactly mind-blowing, with 10.6 points and 8.4 rebounds on 45.7% shooting from the field, but his elite defense and ability to do the little things have been the highlights, making him a worthy pick.

The Pistons rookie has garnered much admiration. However, a few skeptics remain, including former Washington Wizards star Gilbert Arenas. Discussing whether Thompson is a future cornerstone player, Arenas shared his doubts, due to his production relative to his age as a rookie.

“You’re 20, turning 21, averaging 10, you’re not in my future.”
