Victor Wembanyama, the San Antonio Spurs’ star rookie was absent from Saturday’s match against the Dallas Mavericks due to an unfortunate incident during warmups.

The young talent suffered an ankle injury when he stumbled and unintentionally stepped on a ball boy’s foot while participating in a layup drill.

This incident was captured on video.

As a precautionary measure, Wembanyama went to the locker room to have his ankle taped and was subsequently declared unfit to play in the game. Spurs coach Gregg Popovich expressed that if it had been a playoff game, he would have likely allowed Wembanyama to play.

However, considering the recent time limitation on his ankle, Popovich preferred to adopt a conservative approach. The coach acknowledged that Wembanyama was disappointed about the situation, but emphasized the need to prioritize his recovery, as the injury was an unexpected and unusual occurrence before the game.
