Last night, the Kansas City Chiefs have won their fourth Super Bowl title, defeating the San Francisco 49ers 25-22 in a dramatic overtime game at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas.

For superstars Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce, it was the third championship of their careers.

Last night’s win had people once again wondering if there is a secret connection between the NFL and the NBA, due to Kelce and New Orleans Pelicans center Jonas Valanciunas, looking so much alike that they could be twins, if not even the same person.

Both area about the same age, weigh around 260 pounds, and are really tall (granted Valanciunas has a couple of inches on Kelce, but come one…). Most of allot hey also have similar facial features, such as their beard, nose, eyes, and smile. The resemblance is so striking that many fans and media outlets have previously noticed and commented on it.

For example, in 2017, a fan tweeted at Kelce, asking if he would look exactly like Valanciunas if he buzzed his head. Kelce replied, saying that it was “kinda scary” and that he would dominate the NBA if he was 7 feet tall. Another fan posted a side-by-side photo of the two players, which Kelce said made him “extremely uncomfortable”.

In 2020, after the Chiefs won the Super Bowl, many Torontonians congratulated Valanciunas on Twitter, joking that he was Kelce’s alter ego. Some even suggested that Valanciunas should join the Chiefs as a backup tight end, or that Kelce should join the Raptors as a backup center.

The two players have never met in person, but they seem to be aware of their doppelganger status. In 2019, Valanciunas posted a photo of himself wearing a Chiefs hat on Instagram, with the caption “Travis Kelce is my brother from another mother”. Kelce liked the post and commented “My guy!!”.

Then last night, after the Chiefs won the Super Bowl, Valanciunas’ Pelicans teammates hilariously celebrated their center as Super Bowl winner.
