The 2024 NBA slam dunk contest was held on Saturday, Feb. 17, 2024 at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, as part of the All-Star Weekend. The participants were Jaylen Brown, Jaime Jaquez Jr, Jacob Toppin, and defending champion Mac McClung.
The judges were former slam dunk winners Dominique Wilkins and Fred Jones, as well as Hall of Famers Gary Payton and Mitch Richmond, and former ABA star Darnell Hillman.
The contest was widely criticized by fans and media for being boring, predictable and lacking in creativity. Many felt that the judges were too generous with their scores, especially for Jaylen Brown, who advanced to the final on a night in which Mac McClung won his second consecutive title.
By hoisting Brown to the dunk contest final, they snubbed Jacob Toppin, who, before the contest, revealed that he had some special dunks planned.
Unfortunately, we didn’t get to see them, and therefore were robbed of a great final round… however, footage of a dunk Toppin had planned to show in the final round, has now surfaced. The footage stemming from one of his dunk contest practices, is just amazing.
Yeah, the judges robbed us!
This is a dunk Jacob Toppin would have used in the Final Round of the Dunk Contest… pic.twitter.com/ySued74cr6— OpenCourt-Basketball (@OpenCourtFB) February 28, 2024
