Alperen Sengun was having a breakout season for the Houston Rockets, averaging 21.1 points, 9.3 rebounds and 5.0 assists per game on 53.7% shooting from the field. But a Grade 3 ankle sprain suffered in a game against the Sacramento Kings abruptly halted his breakout campaign.
Sengun was a key cog in the Rockets’ offense, and his injury initially seemed to dash their playoff hopes. However, in a surprising turn of events, the Rockets have rattled off 7 straight wins since he went down and are now pushing for a play-in spot, fueled by Jalen Green’s strong play.
This unexpected success without the talented big man has now sparked a bold proposition from renowned sports analyst Bill Simmons. He suggests that the Rockets could entertain the notion of trading Sengun this summer.
As transcribed by Shahul Hameed of EssentiallySports:
“You would have said he [Sengun] is the best asset on the team… Love this guy. But the team kinda falls in the place since he goes away in some ways. I mean you think like, if we were GM conciliator for the Rockets… ‘[we’d say] Hey man, do you think we should swap Sengun this summer? I think I say, let’s think this out,” Bill Simmons remarks.
