As the final buzzer sounds on another thrilling regular season, the NBA has more than just spectacular games and standout performances to celebrate. The 2023-24 NBA season will be etched in history not only for its on-court drama but also for setting a new benchmark in fan engagement. The NBA has officially announced that a staggering 22.5 million fans attended games this season, setting a new record for in-person attendance.

This season’s attendance figures have surpassed the previous record, showcasing the ever-growing passion for basketball across the nation. With a total of 22,536,341 fans flocking to arenas and an impressive 872 sellouts, the NBA has once again proven its place as a titan of the sports world.

The NBA’s success in drawing crowds is not just a number; it’s a narrative of the league’s health and its global appeal. With an average attendance of 18,322 and arenas filled to 98% capacity, the league’s vitality is unquestionable. Ten teams, including the Boston Celtics, Cleveland Cavaliers, Dallas Mavericks, and the Golden State Warriors, sold out all 41 of their home games, highlighting the widespread allure of the sport.

Moreover, the introduction of the In-Season Tournament has contributed to the highest November average attendance in NBA history, signaling the league’s innovative approach to keeping the season fresh and exciting.

As the NBA looks ahead to its next TV rights deal, these attendance records will undoubtedly play a crucial role in negotiations. The current nine-year, $24 billion deal signed in 2014 is set to expire after the 2024-25 season, and with the league’s growth since then, a significant increase in the value of the next deal is anticipated.
