In a recent NBA on TNT broadcast, the always candid Charles Barkley didn’t hold back when discussing the New Orleans Pelicans’ performance in the playoffs. The Pelicans, currently down 3-0 to the Oklahoma City Thunder, have been struggling on the court. But instead of sympathizing with their plight, Barkley had a unique vacation suggestion for the team.
The tradition in professional sports is for teams to take a sunny summer vacation to Cancun, Mexico after a playoff loss. It’s a chance for players to unwind, soak up the sun, and forget about the grueling season. However, Barkley isn’t interested in sending the Pelicans to Cancun. Instead, he proposed an alternative destination: Galveston, Texas.
Galveston, a coastal town located southeast of Houston, has a reputation for its brown water. Yes, you read that right—brown water. The Mississippi River, which covers a large portion of the United States, empties out into the Gulf of Mexico near Galveston. As a result, the water isn’t exactly postcard-worthy. But hey, it’s got character!
“We’re not even gonna send them to Cancun,” Barkley declared. “We’re gonna send them to Galveston with that dirty a— water be washing up on the shore. You people think they’re at the beach.”

In Game 3, the Thunder dominated, winning by 21 points. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander led the Thunder with 24 points, while Brandon Ingram paced the Pelicans with 19 points. But forget the game stats; let’s focus on Barkley’s vacation proposal.
One thing’s for sure: Galveston awaits, with its quirky water and coastal vibes. So, Pelicans, pack your bags and get ready for a memorable offseason adventure. Who needs Cancun when you’ve got Galveston?
