While this far into the playoffs, every rotation player’s contribution is crucial, some matchups are so pivotal that they can determine the outcome of the game. Such is the case with Karl-Anthony Towns when the Minnesota Timberwolves face off against Nikola Jokic and the Denver Nuggets.

After the Wolves’ Game 6 victory against the Nuggets, Anthony Edwards highlighted the significance of KAT’s performance and discipline in their strategy to contain Jokic.

“If KAT doesn’t foul, we pretty much can win the game, every time,”

Ant remarked after a particularly intense game where Towns managed to limit his fouls to just three, avoiding the critical fifth foul that could have jeopardized the team’s chances.

This discipline is not just about avoiding penalties; it’s about maintaining the best possible matchup against Jokic. Towns has proven to be the most one of the more effective player on the Timberwolves’ roster in guarding Jokic, using his agility and intelligence to counter the Nuggets’ star. When KAT is on the floor, the Timberwolves have a player, who can challenge Jokic on both ends of the court.

Edwards’ statement sheds light on the team’s reliance on KAT’s presence in the paint.

“Tonight he had 3 fouls, but he only had 3, he didn’t have 5,” Ant continued, expressing relief and gratitude for Towns’ controlled aggression. “I told him today, we’re thankful you didn’t foul, because if you foul, we lose.”

It’s a clear acknowledgment of Towns’ impact on the game and the team’s dynamics. With KAT effectively managing his fouls and staying in the game, the Timberwolves have a fighting chance against the three-time MVP… also in the upcoming Game 7.
