The Minnesota Timberwolves enjoyed their best season since the Kevin Garnett era, finishing 56-26 and reaching the Western Conference Finals. Anthony Edwards led the charge, but the arrival of Rudy Gobert was a major factor.
Gobert anchored the defense, blocking shots, grabbing rebounds, and controlling the paint, providing a much-needed safety net for the team. His defensive efforts for the team paid off as he was named the Defensive Player of the Year for the fourth time in his career.
However, despite his impact, Gobert remains a controversial figure. The Timberwolves big man’s performance, particularly against the Dallas Mavericks in the Western Conference Finals, has left many observers questioning his value.
One such critic is Kendrick Perkins. Sharing his thoughts on the Timberwolves, the player-turned-analyst thinks the team should trade Gobert for New Orleans Pelicans star Brandon Ingram.
“I’m looking at Minnesota and B.I. can fit in at Minnesota because here’s the thing: you might have to give something up. Let me ask you this: You take your chances and you challenge Karl Anthony-Towns to play the 5-position and get rid of Rudy; see if New Orleans wants to take him and get B.I. over there.”
