Paul George will play for his fourth team next season, having agreed to a four-year, $212 million deal with the Philadelphia 76ers. Teaming up with Joel Embiid and Tyrese Maxey, the Sixers look poised to become serious contenders next season.
Many are excited about the move, but this one still stings for Golden State Warriors veteran Draymond Green. And for the obvious reason that George didn’t land with the Warriors despite the two parties having mutual interest.
George, who averaged 22.6 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 3.5 assists per game on 47.1% shooting last season, would have been a good addition to the Warriors. But ultimately, the Los Angeles Clippers decided it wasn’t in their best interest to strengthen a conference opponent.
“(I’m) a little salty about that because, as you all know, Paul George was gonna come to the Warriors. We wanted Paul George to come to the Warriors,” he said on “The Draymond Green Show.” “For us to take Paul George, it would have taken a sign-and-trade, and the Clippers didn’t really want to play ball. Didn’t really want to help him get to where he wanted to go, and so in turn they get nothing back.”
