Golden State Warriors fans are grappling with an emotional goodbye as Klay Thompson, a four-time NBA champion with the team, departs for a new chapter in his career. Thompson recently took to Instagram to express his heartfelt gratitude to the Bay Area, the place he called home for his entire 13-year NBA career.

In a touching message accompanying a montage of photos and videos, Thompson wrote,

“Oh Bay Area, there are not enough words and images to convey how I really feel about y’all. From the bottom of my heart, thank you so much for the best times of my life. It was such an honor to put on that Dubs jersey on from day 1.”

His message highlights the deep connection Thompson formed with the Bay Area and the Warriors organization. Drafted by Golden State in 2011, Thompson blossomed alongside Stephen Curry, forming the iconic “Splash Brothers” duo that propelled the Warriors to a dynasty.

Thompson’s words go beyond championships, though. He expressed appreciation for the friendships forged and the memories made throughout his tenure.

“The best part wasn’t the rings though,” he wrote, “it was the friendships I made that will last a lifetime.”

The post has struck a chord with Warriors fans, many of whom have responded with messages of gratitude and well wishes for Thompson’s future. His former teammate, Kevin Durant, even chimed in, calling Thompson a “Bay Area god.”

While Golden State fans are undoubtedly sad to see Thompson go, they undoubtedly respect his decision and celebrate his contributions to the franchise. His legacy as a sharpshooter, a fierce competitor, and a beloved teammate is secure. As Thompson himself signed off:

“Don’t be sad it’s over, be happy it happened. Until we meet again. Sea Captain out.”
