LeBron James has always made it clear that he’s all about winning. However, four championships and 10 NBA Finals appearances later, former NFL player and current NBA analyst Emmanuel Acho doesn’t think the four-time NBA champion has the same drive anymore.
LeBron and the Lakers are coming off a first-round playoff loss. In response, the team addressed their shortcomings by retaining most of their role players, extending Max Christie’s contract, drafting Bronny James, and placing JJ Redick at the forefront of their coaching staff.
Now, these moves raise questions for Acho about LeBron’s current priorities. On “Speak,” the NBA analyst explained why he believes winning championships is no longer LeBron’s primary objective.
“LeBron’s primary objective is no longer winning championships. If his primary objective was to win a championship, I don’t know that JJ Redick would be the head coach. If his primary objective was to win a championship, I don’t know that he would be playing for the Lakers. If his primary objective was to win a championship, I don’t know that Bronny James would be on the team
I think the Lakers and LeBron James have two different goals. LeBron’s primary goal was to play with his son. He did everything within his power to play with his son, and he did.”
