Earlier this month, the Dallas Mavericks sent shockwaves through the NBA, when they acquired Klay Thompson from the Golden State Warriors. Mavericks General Manager Nico Harrison described the decision as a “no-brainer,” emphasizing the strategic importance of adding Thompson to their roster.

Speaking during the Mavericks’ Summer League game against the Utah Jazz, Harrison expressed his excitement about the deal.

“It was a no-brainer for us, especially after the finals. We knew we were a Klay Thompson away,” Harrison stated.

The Mavericks, who fell short in the NBA Finals, identified Thompson as the missing piece needed to elevate their game.

Klay Thompson, known for his elite three-point shooting, joins the Mavericks on a three-year, $50 million contract. Despite not being the player he once was during the peak years of the Warriors dynasty, Thompson remains one of the league’s top shooters. Last season, he averaged 17.9 points, 3.3 rebounds, and 2.3 assists. His ability to stretch the floor and provide consistent scoring will be invaluable to a Mavericks team that struggled with perimeter shooting in the finals.

At his introductory press conference, Thompson expressed his enthusiasm for joining the Mavericks.

“I’m very grateful for my time at Golden State, but I just felt like moving on could re-energize me and do something special for the rest of my career,” Thompson said.

He highlighted the Mavericks’ young talent, their style of play, and the organization’s world-class treatment of players as key factors in his decision.

With Thompson now in the fold, the Mavericks are poised to be a formidable force in the Western Conference. Pairing him with stars like Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving creates a dynamic trio that could challenge any team. The Mavericks’ front office believes that Thompson’s presence will not only improve their shooting but also bring a championship mentality to the squad.
