Former NBA star Gilbert Arenas ignited a bit of a firestorm recently with comments directed at Boston Celtics star Jaylen Brown. Arenas, known for his outspoken personality, took aim at Brown’s criticism of Bronny James, during the NBA Summer League.
Brown reportedly questioned whether Bronny has the skills to play professional basketball. Arenas countered by pointing out Brown’s own struggles in the Summer League.
“He was the 3rd pick in the NBA Draft,” Arenas said, referencing Brown’s selection in 2016. “The first 3 games, just like Bronny. Bronny was 6-26, and Jaylen Brown was 5-26 in his first 3 games in summer league.”

Arenas’ comments highlight the pressure faced by young players entering the NBA. Summer League performances are often used as a measuring stick, but as Arenas points out, struggles in these early games don’t necessarily translate to future success. Brown, a key player for the Celtics, is a prime example.
