Golden State Warriors star Draymond Green recently made headlines for his candid advice to high school basketball prospects at the Klutch Sports NIL Camp. Known for his fiery demeanor and no-nonsense approach, Green didn’t hold back when addressing the young athletes about their on-court behavior.

During the camp, Green observed that many of the prospects were quick to complain about calls from referees. He pointed out that this tendency to “cry about every call” was not only unproductive but also detrimental to their development as players. Green emphasized the importance of playing the game the right way, focusing on effort and smart play rather than seeking favorable calls.

“Y’all chasing the game, like all young dudes do. Come down – ‘I need to get a three’ – and ain’t nobody Steph Curry. Everybody gets the three, shooting it well. But you took three fouls in a row… Y’all crying about every call. I get a lot of techs. So, I’m actually f*cked up on that part.”

Green, a four-time NBA champion, shared his own experiences with technical fouls and ejections, noting that his confrontations with referees have cost him millions of dollars in fines. He used this as a cautionary tale, urging the young players to avoid making the same mistakes.

“It’s probably 50 times the amount of money my mom made in her life. So, it’ll cost you,” Green remarked, highlighting the financial repercussions of constant complaining.

Moreover, Green challenged the prospects to reflect on their sense of entitlement. He questioned what they had accomplished to warrant special treatment from referees, reminding them that respect and favorable calls are earned through hard work and performance on the court.

Green’s message was clear: to succeed in basketball, young players need to focus on improving their skills, making smart decisions, and maintaining a positive attitude. By doing so, they can avoid the pitfalls that have plagued even seasoned professionals.

In a world where many young athletes are often coddled and praised, Green’s tough love approach serves as a refreshing reminder of the values that truly matter in sports. His advice is not just about basketball; it’s about building character and resilience, qualities that will serve these prospects well both on and off the court.
