Patrick Ewing Is A Germophobe With The Super-Power Of Knowing If People Washed Their Hands Or Not

Former New York Knicks superstar Patrick Ewing, who celebrates his birthday today, had an amazing career. He was an 11-time All-Star, was nominated to 7 All-NBA Teams as well as three All-Defensive Teams, and has his number retired by the Knicks.

Surprisingly, Ewing also is a germophobe. A germophobe is someone who has a fear of germs that is so strong that it is not normal or reasonable. Former Knicks assistant coach Tim Walsh revealed the story to New York Daily News’ Stefan Bondy:

“Ewing’s cups of water on the bench had to be freshly-poured, rather than sitting on a tray collecting germs.”

But that’s not all! Apparently, Patrick Ewing has a super-power as well; he knows when people didn’t wash their hands. He then didn’t touch those people.

“He was very aware of people who didn’t wash their hands,” Walsh said. “Patrick knew from two rooms away if someone went to the bathroom and didn’t wash their hands. He knew it. And Patrick was not touching that person all night. Two hours later, in the middle of the game, if that guy just hit the game-winning shot, he was fist-bumping him instead of shaking his hand. He wasn’t touching the guy.”
