Charlotte Hornets forward Grant Williams has made headlines not for his on-court prowess, but for his newfound hobby of collecting basketball cards. On his very first day diving into this hobby, Williams pulled a rare and highly valuable Luka Doncic rookie card, estimated to be worth at least $100,000.
Williams, who recently started collecting basketball cards, attended Fanatics Fest in New York where he purchased a box of National Treasures for $10,500. To his astonishment, the box contained a Luka Doncic rookie card featuring a patch from Doncic’s jersey and his autograph. The card is graded nine out of ten in terms of condition, making it a highly sought-after item in the sports memorabilia market.
The card’s value has already attracted significant attention, with offers ranging from $250,000 to $500,000. However, Williams is holding out for a potential offer from Doncic himself, believing that the Dallas Mavericks star might be willing to pay up to a million dollars for the card.
“I’ve got to give Luka first right to refusal, just because he would buy this for like a million I bet,” Williams said.
Despite multiple attempts to contact Doncic, who is currently in Slovenia, Williams has yet to receive a response.
This remarkable find has not only highlighted Williams’ beginner’s luck but also sparked interest in his new hobby. Alongside the Doncic card, Williams also pulled rare cards of Jayson Tatum and Anthony Edwards, making his first foray into basketball card collecting an incredibly successful one.
