Shaquille O’Neal is such a character, to say the least. When he’s high on a player, he makes sure everyone knows it. But when he doesn’t, his criticism can get pretty intense. We’ve seen this pattern develop over the years, where if you land on Shaq’s bad side, it’s a tough place to escape.
Now, some players who have consistently fallen victim to Shaq’s disdain are Rudy Gobert and Ben Simmons. Gobert’s impressive defensive resume just hasn’t been enough to quiet Shaq. Simmons, on the other hand, continues to be criticized for reasons that are now all too familiar to NBA fans.
In a recent interview, Shaq kept it real, as he usually does, when he was asked to name the worst NBA player of all time. Gobert was his pick, but he immediately added Simmons into the conversation. Shaq’s centered around their inability to deliver for the kind of money they’re getting.
“Rudy Gobert. Ben Simmons is another bum… If you sign a contract for $250 million, show me that you’re worth $250 million. There’s a reason why I walk funny, why I can’t turn my neck – it’s because I played hard for my $120 million. Guys like him screw over the system, make all this money, and then can’t play. So, I don’t respect players like that.”
