Boston Celtics forward Jayson Tatum is known for his impressive skills on the basketball court, but now he’s making a splash in the literary world with his debut children’s book, “Baby Dunks-a-Lot.” Co-authored with Sam Apple and illustrated by Parker-Nia Gordon.
“Baby Dunks-a-Lot” tells the hilarious and heartwarming tale of a baby who becomes an unexpected basketball superstar. Inspired by Tatum’s own experiences as both an NBA player and a loving father, the story follows a baby who, after learning to play basketball from his older brother, astonishes everyone with his incredible dunking abilities. The baby quickly becomes a sensation, with every professional team vying for his talents. However, the story takes a charming twist as the baby must balance his newfound fame with the simple joys of childhood, like making it to bedtime on time.
Tatum, who often shares moments with his six-year-old son Deuce at NBA games, expressed his excitement about the project.
“It’s something I’m really excited for,” Tatum said. “Deuce and I read together all the time, so this is something I’ve loved working on. I hope kids all over the world will be inspired and enjoy the story as much as we do”.
The book is set to be released today, on September 10, 2024, and has already garnered positive reviews. Jeff Kinney, author of “Diary of a Wimpy Kid,” praised it as “a bundle of basketball joy”. With its engaging storyline and vibrant illustrations, “Baby Dunks-a-Lot” is poised to become a favorite on children’s bookshelves.
