Burglars targeted the Medina home of Minnesota Timberwolves guard Mike Conley on Sunday, making off with a significant amount of jewelry. Conley was in Minneapolis at the time, where he had the honor of sounding the Gjallarhorn at the Minnesota Vikings game against the San Francisco 49ers.
The break-in occurred mid-afternoon while Conley was at U.S. Bank Stadium, energizing the crowd before the Vikings’ kickoff. According to Medina Police Chief Jason Nelson, the burglars struck three homes in the affluent neighborhood that day, including Conley’s. The thieves appeared to have conducted prior surveillance, as they approached the houses from the rear, broke in through lower-level windows, and targeted primary bedrooms for jewelry.
The burglars were in and out of Conley’s home within five minutes, making off with an undisclosed amount of jewelry. Surveillance footage captured a vehicle leaving the scene, which police believe may be linked to the suspects. Despite the quick response from law enforcement, no arrests have been made yet.
The incident has left the community shaken. Conley’s multimillion-dollar residence is situated in a secluded area with few nearby homes, making the targeted burglary even more unsettling.
“It’s alarming to think that someone could be watching your home and waiting for the right moment to strike,” said a neighbor who wished to remain anonymous.
Just shortly before the burglary, Conley was seen at the Vikings game, where he sounded the Gjallarhorn, a traditional Viking horn used to rally the crowd. Decked out in a Vikings jersey with his basketball number 10, Conley was unaware of the events unfolding at his home.
Police are urging residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity.
“We believe these homes were not chosen at random,” Chief Nelson stated. “The suspects likely observed the homeowners’ patterns before executing the burglaries”.
Authorities are working diligently to track down the culprits and recover the stolen items.
