Dominique Wilkins and Michael Jordan’s rivalry and on-court battles certainly captivated fans and left an indelible mark on the sport. Recently, Wilkins made headlines with his candid remarks about not watching the acclaimed documentary series, *The Last Dance*, which chronicles Jordan’s final season with the Chicago Bulls.
Speaking on the JAXXON podcast, Wilkins revealed that he never felt the need to watch The Last Dance. His reason? He lived it.
“I never even seen it… because we lived it. I saw it every game; I know his mentality. I saw it in him in college when he was a freshman; I was a junior, and I saw it then, the toughness, the determination, the will to win”.
For Wilkins, the documentary couldn’t offer anything new that he hadn’t already experienced firsthand.
Wilkins’ perspective is unique. Unlike many fans and even some players who gained new insights from the documentary, Wilkins felt that his personal experiences with Jordan were sufficient. He emphasized that he prefers to focus on the present and future rather than looking back at past events.
“That was just common knowledge back then. So I didn’t need to see the documentary to know that a lot of stuff was factual”.
Released in the spring of 2020, The Last Dance quickly became a cultural phenomenon. It provided an in-depth look at Jordan’s career and the Chicago Bulls’ dominance in the 1990s, drawing an average of 5.6 million viewers per episode. The series was praised for its behind-the-scenes footage and candid interviews, offering fans a glimpse into Jordan’s competitive spirit and personal challenges.
