Are we ever going to stop talking about the best all-time starting five? Probably not, as the game keeps evolving, and newer stars are constantly making their case to be in that conversation, while other all-time greats each have their own legitimate argument for a place on that list.
These debates are always interesting because of the unique perspectives. You’ll always see names like Michael Jordan, LeBron James, Kobe Bryant, Magic Johnson and Tim Duncan on the list, but when someone throws in a different name, that’s when it really gets interesting. Shaquille O’Neal’s list is a prime example.
In an interview with Sport Bild, Shaq revealed his all-time starting five, and there were some surprises. LeBron, a usual candidate and a player he once teamed with, didn’t make the list. Nor did a point guard. As if that wasn’t surprising enough, Shaq had Utah Jazz great Karl Malone making the cut.
“When I got to the NBA, Michael Jordan dominated. Then came Kobe Bryant and LeBron James. But for me, the greatest of all time is Michael Jordan.”
