In a recent episode of “Club Shay Shay,” Karl-Anthony Towns shared his humorous take on the infamous choking incident involving his former teammate Rudy Gobert and Golden State Warriors forward Draymond Green. The incident, which occurred during an In-Season Tournament game last November, became one of the most talked-about moments of the 2023-2024 NBA season.
The altercation began after a jersey-grabbing exchange between Klay Thompson and Jaden McDaniels, leading to both players being ejected for technical fouls. The situation escalated when Green put Gobert in a chokehold, resulting in a level 2 flagrant foul and Green’s ejection and eventual suspension from the game.
Towns, who was present during the altercation, recounted the moment with a mix of amusement and disbelief.
“That situation had been so funny. Just all of a sudden, one time I’m looking and I’m like looking, I’m seeing Draymond do something to Rudy, I’m trying to pull Draymond off, and I’m like, well we’re all in this together,” Towns said on the podcast.
Despite the seriousness of the incident, Gobert has taken a lighthearted approach, often joking about it with teammates and fans. Towns praised Gobert’s ability to laugh off the situation, highlighting his professionalism and team-first mentality.
“He laughs about it. He’ll joke around about it. So it’s not like he’s salty and gets aggravated. He’ll laugh,” Towns added.
