Los Angeles Lakers rookie Bronny James recently opened up about his harrowing experience with cardiac arrest in an interview with Men’s Health magazine.
The incident occurred in July 2023 during an unorganized scrimmage at the University of Southern California, where Bronny collapsed on the court.
Bronny James was participating in a practice session when he suddenly went into cardiac arrest. Thanks to the quick response of USC’s medical staff and the availability of medical equipment, Bronny was resuscitated and stabilized. He was later transferred to the hospital, where he received further treatment and was eventually released.
In the interview, Bronny shared that his days are still not normal and that he is still in the process of recovering.
“At the point when it happened, there were a whole bunch of categories that what had happened could fall under, so yeah. There were a whole lot of emotions, but . . .
I got real on top of my routines to get back to where I was. I had to do breathing exercises and stuff. It was a total reset. I have to stay on top of my heart medications…
…I still feel like I’m getting back, I’m getting back to where I was,” Bronny told Men’s Health.
The incident was a major scare for the James family, and it was likely caused by a congenital heart defect, which has since been closely monitored by medical professionals. He has undergone several evaluations and treatments to ensure his health and safety moving forward-
Despite the challenges, he remains optimistic about his future in basketball and is grateful for the support he has received from his family, friends, and fans.
