In a recent practice session, newly appointed Lakers head coach JJ Redick made headlines by denying Jaxson Hayes from scoring during a “guards vs. bigs” drill.
Redick, who played 15 seasons in the NBA, showcased his defensive prowess by shutting down Hayes, much to the delight of the guards.
The practice session saw the Lakers divided into two teams: guards and big men. Redick, taking on the challenge himself, managed to stop Hayes from scoring, securing a win for the guards.

Redick’s impressive debut as a coach came after the Lakers’ season-opening victory against the Minnesota Timberwolves, where Anthony Davis dominated with 36 points, 16 rebounds, and three blocks. The victory marked the Lakers’ first opening-night win since 2016.
The practice session and Redick’s defensive effort against Hayes have been well-received by Lakers fans, who are excited about the new coaching direction under Redick. The former sharpshooter turned coach has already earned the respect and trust of his players, including star center Anthony Davis.
