Despite the good vibes and different narrative, the Los Angeles Lakers have seen a noticeable statistical decline in performance under new head coach JJ Redick compared to the previous tenure of Darvin Ham.

While there’s has been a huge, and still existing initial optimism surrounding Redick’s appointment, the Lakers’ stats tell a different story.

A Redditor shared that under Darvin Ham in the 2023-24 NBA season, the Lakers posted an offensive rating of 115.9 and a defensive rating of 115.3, while shooting 37.7% from the three-point line. They averaged 28.6 assists per game and had 7.6 iso possessions per game.

In contrast, under JJ Redick, the Lakers have struggled with an offensive rating of 114.5 and a defensive rating of 118.6, shooting only 34.4% from beyond the arc. They have averaged 26.6 assists per game and 8.8 iso possessions per game.

Despite the statistical downturn, there is still a sense of optimism among fans and players. Redick’s emphasis on analytics and a more modern style of play is expected to yield better results as the season progresses. However, the early results have been underwhelming – The Lakers started the season with a promising 3-0 record but have since gone 1-4 on a five-game road trip, leaving them with a 4-4 record.

Redick’s frustration was evident in a recent post-game press conference where he criticized several players, except for LeBron James. While the fanbase remains hopeful, it’s clear that there is a lot of work to be done for the Lakers to return to their former glory under Redick’s leadership.
