Oklahoma City Thunder star Chet Holmgren shared an emotional message from his hospital bed after suffering a significant hip injury during a game against the Golden State Warriors.
The injury, a right iliac hip fracture, occurred when Holmgren contested a drive by Andrew Wiggins and landed awkwardly on his hip.
Chet Holmgren, a “big” by today’s NBA standard, challenged the powerhouse that is Andrew Wiggins and broke his whole right side – gone for months. Kawhi & Ben Simmons are thieves. Zion is a big ass pillow. So is Joel Embiid. Zion’s whole TEAM is Puh-C 🤦🏿♂️

Unable to walk off the court on his own, Holmgren was immediately taken to the locker room, and the severity of the injury was confirmed the following day. The Thunder announced that Holmgren would be sidelined for a minimum of eight to ten weeks as he enters a return-to-play protocol.
In his heartfelt message, Holmgren expressed his frustration and determination to overcome the setback.
“Can’t tell if I feel better or worse about this having been through something similar before,” Holmgren wrote. “On one hand, I know how to approach it, I know what to do, what not to do, and how beautiful the other side is. But on the other hand, I’ve felt the frustration of this process, and the wear it puts on your mind. Most of all, I’m hurt I can’t help my teammates and play for our fans and supporters for a while.”
Holmgren also urged fans not to pity him, acknowledging that there are people facing much more challenging situations.
“Everyone who sticks with me and our team, along with my need for hoops, is a big part of my passion to return. Don’t pity me or feel bad, there’s lots of people out there right now with real problems that don’t heal.”
