In a heartfelt tribute, the Golden State Warriors honored Klay Thompson during their game against the Dallas Mavericks at the Chase Center on Tuesday night. The Warriors celebrated Thompson’s contributions to the franchise with a special ceremony before the game, presenting fans with captain’s hats to honor Thompson’s tradition of boating to games as “Captain Klay.”
“Captain’s hat ended up being a great touch because I’m such a passionate boater,” Thompson said post-game. “Saw a lot of familiar faces. It was a warm-hearted feeling.”
A tearful, joyful captain’s salute.

Thompson, who joined the Mavericks in July on a three-year, $50 million contract, had a strong performance, finishing with 22 points on 7-of-17 shooting and connecting on 6-of-12 attempts from beyond the arc. However, it was Stephen Curry who stole the show in the final minutes, scoring the Warriors’ final 12 points to secure a 120-117 victory.
