Carmelo Anthony, one of the most prolific scorers in NBA history, recently reflected on one of the moments that led him to retire.
Melo shared an encounter that made him realize it might be time to hang up his sneakers for good.
“I wanted to get away from the game the minute that one of these young f**ks started saying sh*t. They started saying vintage… The worst is I ain’t know you still had that… We were playing Denver… This was the first time I played Denver in a long time. Going back, Michael Porter Jr. was guarding me. I caught him on the right elbow, just like I used to—post quick jab, go left, and lay it up. He was like, ‘Damn Unc, I didn’t know you still had that,'”
The term “Unc,” short for “Uncle,” is often used as a term of respect for veteran players by younger teammates and opponents.
However, for Anthony, it was a moment of introspection. The forward had enjoyed a stellar career, with multiple All-Star appearances, an Olympic gold medal, and a spot among the top 10 all-time leading scorers in NBA history.
