The New York Knicks capped off a successful weekend with a commanding 114-104 victory over their cross-town rivals, the Brooklyn Nets, on Sunday night at Madison Square Garden. The win not only moved the Knicks back above .500 but also marked their eighth consecutive victory over the Nets, a streak not seen since the 1990-91 season.
While the return of Karl-Anthony Towns from a knee injury was a significant boost, it was OG Anunoby who stole the show with his all-around performance. Anunoby scored 24 points on 9-of-17 shooting from the field.
But Anunoby’s contributions didn’t stop at scoring. He also grabbed eight rebounds, including three offensive boards, and played a crucial role in the Knicks’ defense. His off-ball movement and constant cutting made him a nightmare for the Nets’ defense, and his defensive awareness was key in holding the Nets to just 104 points.
The Knicks’ victory was a true team effort, with four of their five starters scoring at least 20 points. Jalen Brunson, despite struggling with his shot, managed a double-double with 12 points and 10 assists. Towns added 26 points and 15 rebounds, while Bridges contributed 21 points.
Head coach Tom Thibodeau praised the team’s ball movement and unselfish play, which resulted in 33 assists on 43 made shots.
“OG’s constant movement and awareness on both ends of the floor are huge for us,” Thibodeau said.
Even after the game, Anunoby wasn’t done playing defense, as he locked-down the reporter in his post-game interview by adding three more steals.
