Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James announced that he is taking an indefinite break from social media, citing frustration with the negativity in sports coverage as his primary reason. The NBA’s all-time leading scorer made the announcement on X (formerly Twitter) and Instagram.
James’ decision came after he shared a post from Rich Kleiman, Kevin Durant’s longtime manager, that criticized the media’s negativity. Kleiman wrote,
“We can all acknowledge that sports is the last part of society that universally brings people together. So why can’t the coverage do the same?”
James reposted the comment with a simple “AMEN!!” and followed up with his own message:
“And with that said, I’ll holla at y’all! Getting off social media for the time being. Y’all take care”.

This isn’t the first time James has stepped away from social media. He has taken breaks before, typically to focus on basketball, but this time, he emphasized the overwhelming negativity he has encountered online. James mentioned that he often faces accusations of lying, especially after making comments about players he has watched in college.
The announcement has sparked mixed reactions among fans. Some support James’ decision to prioritize his mental well-being, while others speculate that ongoing criticism regarding his son, Bronny James, may have influenced his choice. Regardless, James’ departure from social media has generated plenty of responses by NBA Twitter, with many directly underlining the reason for his exit.
