Ben Simmons reportedly reached out to his former Philadelphia 76ers teammate Joel Embiid last summer to repair their strained relationship, after the tumultuous end to their time together.
Simmons and Embiid were once seen as the dynamic duo poised to lead the 76ers to NBA glory. However, their relationship faced challenges, particularly during and after the 2021 NBA playoffs. The 76ers’ disappointing exit in the playoffs, combined with Simmons’ struggles on the court and the subsequent trade to the Brooklyn Nets, strained their partnership.
During this past summer, Simmons reportedly made the first move to reconnect with Embiid. According to Ramona Shelburne, he expressed his desire to mend their relationship and move past the issues that had caused tension.
“…so much has gone wrong for Simmons and his former team in the years they’ve been apart that Simmons’ presence back in Philadelphia barely registered this time. He’d even reached out to Embiid and others last summer, league sources said, hoping to mend fences.”
While there have been no reports of Embiid taking the invitation to talk to Simmons, Simmons delivered one of his best games of the season last night, finishing with 14 points, 9 rebounds, and 8 assists while shooting 7-for-8 from the field.
