In a recent interview, Orlando Magic forward Paolo Banchero shared his feelings about being sidelined due to a torn right oblique muscle.

Banchero, who has been out since October 31, 2024, expressed how difficult it has been for him to watch his team play from the bench.

“I just miss the show. I just miss the league. I miss the games, being out there on the court, in the arena. Having the ball on my hands, just hooping, talking s—. Sitting there watching the game is cool, fun and I’m always engaged and cheering and trying to help guys out, and lead and coach. But there is only so much I can do sitting in street clothes. I can only say so much, clap so many times. I just want to go out there.

I don’t know how guys do that. I really don’t because it drives me crazy just being on the bench. But you got to do it. That’s been the hardest part, just having to sit there every game.

Despite Banchero’s absence, the Orlando Magic have managed to stay competitive, winning 10 of their last 11 games. Players like Franz Wagner and Jalen Suggs have stepped up to fill the scoring gap left by Banchero.

Obviously, [the] team’s still doing great. I’ve been happy with the way they’ve been playing….

Banchero’s injury occurred during a game against the Chicago Bulls, and he has been re-evaluated multiple times since then. The Magic have listed him as out indefinitely, but Banchero remains hopeful that he will be able to return before Christmas.

“Personally — this isn’t from the medical team or anything — but the way I feel, I think [I’m back] before Christmas.”
