In a recent interview, Dalton Knecht, the 23-year-old rookie for the Los Angeles Lakers, shared some surprising insights about his teammate, LeBron James, who turns 40 today. Knecht revealed that LeBron’s love for the video game Madden NFL is more intense than he initially thought.
Knecht knew LeBron was a fan of Madden before they became teammates, but he was taken aback by just how much LeBron enjoys the game.
“How much he loves to play Madden. He always talks about him playing Madden but I didn’t really know it was that much. He watches it on the plane and stuff,” Knecht said.

LeBron’s passion for football is not entirely surprising. Before becoming an NBA legend, he played as a wide receiver at St. Vincent-St. Mary High School, drawing interest from several Division I football programs. Although he ultimately chose basketball, his love for football has never waned. LeBron has been spotted attending NFL games and often shares his predictions on which teams he believes will win ahead of weekly matchups.
LeBron’s dedication to Madden has paid off; he has become quite skilled at the game and even earned a spot among the top 100 players in Madden 25. Knecht noted that LeBron’s approach to Madden is meticulous and detail-oriented.
