At this point, you should believe that the Cleveland Cavaliers are for real and not just a team on a random hot streak. To make their case stronger, they just beat the best team in the Western Conference, the Oklahoma City Thunder, to improve to 32-4, the best record in the NBA.
Donovan Mitchell is the face of the Cavaliers right now. He’s their go-to guy and the player fans immediately think of when they talk about Cleveland’s success. His All-Star case is obvious, and he’s already earned that recognition. But for all the attention Mitchell gets, there’s another player who deserves a lot of credit as well, and that’s Darius Garland.
Garland is having a solid season with the Cavaliers. He’s averaging 20.5 points and 6.6 assists, running the offense cohesively and making life easier for teammates like Evan Mobley and Jarrett Allen. Additionally, Garland’s chemistry with Mitchell has turned their backcourt into one of the most dangerous in the league.
Despite all that, Garland’s name doesn’t always come up in All-Star conversations. When asked if he believes he deserves to be an All-Star this season, Garland confidently said he does. However, he quickly pointed out that it’s not just about him.
“I’m trying to be humble as possible. But… yeah, I should be an All-Star. Yes. There should be four of us on this team that are All-Stars.”
