The childhood home of Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr in Pacific Palisades was tragically burned in the recent wildfires that have been ravaging Los Angeles County. Kerr’s 90-year-old mother, Ann Kerr, who still resides in the house, was forced to evacuate to safety.

The house, which has been in the Kerr family since 1969, holds a special place in Steve Kerr’s heart. He spent much of his childhood there, and it was where he developed his love for basketball, playing at nearby Palisades High School before going on to play college basketball at the University of Arizona.

Ann Kerr, in a text message to the San Francisco Chronicle, confirmed that the home was among the structures destroyed by the fire. She expressed her gratitude for the outpouring of support from friends and acquaintances who reached out to check on her safety. Ann is currently staying with friends and has been heartened by the loving messages she has received.

Steve Kerr, who has been vocal about the devastation caused by the wildfires, shared his thoughts with reporters after a recent game.

“I want to send my thoughts and condolences to everybody in Los Angeles dealing with the fires,” Kerr said. “My mom lives in Pacific Palisades. She had to evacuate. Everything I’m seeing and reading is just terrifying what’s happening down there. So just want to send thoughts to everyone who’s going through the devastation of the fire. Obviously, the game is secondary to that and to many things in life. Perspective is important.”

The Palisades Fire has caused widespread destruction, with more than 1,100 buildings burned and at least five people dead across three wildfires in Los Angeles County. The NBA community has been deeply affected, with players and coaches like Kerr and Los Angeles Clippers star Kawhi Leonard stepping away from their teams to ensure the safety of their families.

As the Kerr family and many others in the area begin to rebuild their lives, the support and solidarity from the community continue to provide a glimmer of hope amidst the tragedy.
