Oklahoma City Thunder star Shai Gilgeous-Alexander is on the brink of making NBA history with a potential four-year supermax extension worth nearly $300 million. This deal would not only secure his future with the Thunder but also set him up to become the first player to earn over $80 million in a single season by 2030-31.

Gilgeous-Alexander, who has been a cornerstone for the Thunder since joining the team in 2019, has consistently delivered outstanding performances. His recent All-NBA First Team selection marks his second consecutive appearance on the prestigious list, making him eligible for the supermax extension.

The proposed contract would start in the 2027-28 season and run through 2030-31, with annual salaries reaching a peak of $81.4 million in the final year.

This unprecedented financial commitment underscores the Thunder’s belief in Gilgeous-Alexander’s ability to lead the team to championship contention.

Despite the allure of larger markets, Gilgeous-Alexander has expressed his unwavering commitment to Oklahoma City.

“I love Oklahoma City and I can’t see a world where I’m not in Oklahoma City,” he told reporters. “Market, no market. I don’t care. I love where I am.”

As the Thunder continue to build around their young core, including talents like Chet Holmgren and Jalen Williams, securing Gilgeous-Alexander’s future is a top priority. The team’s front office, led by general manager Sam Presti, has accumulated an impressive combination of young talent and future draft picks, positioning them as a force and contender in the Western Conference.
