Recent reports indicate that Indiana Fever star Caitlin Clark is disinclined to participate in the three-point contest during the upcoming NBA All-Star Weekend. While many fans were excited about the potential matchup featuring Steph Curry, Klay Thompson, and Sabrina Ionescu, Clark’s decision stems from her commitment to her specific practice routine.
Sources close to Clark revealed that she is not keen on altering her rigorous training regimen, which primarily focuses on catch-and-shoot three-pointers and shots off the dribble. Using a ball rack for the contest would significantly deviate from her usual practice methods, potentially affecting her performance and rhythm.
While Clark is currently disinclined to participate, the league is still in discussions with her representatives. There may still be a chance for her to join the contest if an agreeable arrangement is made. Per Sports Business Journal:
According to sources, the league reached out to the Fever guard through her close associates and agents, and the possibility still exists she could still accept their three-point shooting invitation. One scenario would have an NBA player such as Curry conceivably reciprocating and doing a similar male vs. female shoot-out at the WNBA All-Star Game next summer.
“I wouldn’t say it’s over until the thing happens,’’ a source said of Clark’s decision. “A lot of this stuff comes together very, very late.’’
The NBA’s hope is to recreate the magic of last year’s “Steph vs. Sabrina” shootout, which was one of the highlights during last year’s All-Star festivities.
During the contest, both players showcased their incredible shooting abilities. Sabrina Ionescu set the bar high by making nine buckets in a row and finishing with an impressive 26 points. However, Stephen Curry, known for his clutch performances, responded by hitting his last six shots, scoring 29 points, and clinching the victory.
Leading up to this year’s All-Star weekend, the NBA had the previously mentioned the plan to include Clark, as well as Curry’s former teammate Klay Thompson to the crossover event.
