Netflix’s new documentary series, “Court of Gold,” has been captivating basketball fans with its behind-the-scenes look at the 2024 Paris Olympics. One of the best moments features Minnesota Timberwolves star Anthony Edwards in a confident exchange with former President Barack Obama.
During the series, Obama is seen chatting with Joel Embiid about Edwards’ basketball skills. Obama casually remarks,
“He can hoop a little bit, huh?” Embiid responds with a modest, “Just a little bit.”
But Edwards isn’t one to shy away from boasting about his abilities. He confidently retorts,
“Man, y’all better stand down. I’m the truth. These boys know.”
Obama, amused by Edwards’ boldness, continues the conversation by pointing out that despite the Timberwolves having three seven-footers, Embiid still manages to score heavily against them. Edwards, not missing a beat, tells Obama,
“Hold on now. Hold on. Hold on. Don’t talk. We ain’t gonna do all that.”
The interaction doesn’t end there. Obama calls over LeBron James and Kevin Durant to join the conversation, and Edwards stands his ground, reiterating his claim of being “the truth.” Durant and LeBron both acknowledge Edwards’ confidence, with Durant saying,
“Nothing wrong with that,” and LeBron adding, “Ant-Man the truth.”
This moment has quickly gone viral, showcasing Edwards’ unshakable self-assurance and his ability to hold his own even when speaking to a former president. Edwards’ confidence has been a defining trait throughout his career, and this exchange with Obama is just one example of his bold personality.
