Warriors Considered Pairing LeBron James And Kevin Durant With Stephen Curry Ahead Of NBA Trade Deadline

The Golden State Warriors got busy and were among the most aggressive teams in pursuit of a star at the trade deadline. They got one in Jimmy Butler, giving Stephen Curry the co-star he’d been missing. But behind the scenes, the Warriors had even bigger plans.

Word around the league is that the Warriors looked into bringing Kevin Durant back, but the former Warriors superstar had no interest in running it back. That much isn’t surprising. The interesting part is that the Warriors also apparently had their eyes on LeBron James.

LeBron is still going strong in Los Angeles. With the addition of 25-year-old superstar Luka Doncic, LeBron has another reason to stay. Still, that didn’t stop the Warriors from at least considering a wild scenario where both LeBron and Durant would team up with Curry.

Per Hoops Wire

“The Golden State Warriors tried to trade for LeBron James and Kevin Durant at the same time before acquiring Jimmy Butler, an NBA source told Hoops Wire,” wrote Ashish Mathur. “Durant wasn’t interested in getting traded by the Phoenix Suns. Meanwhile, LeBron has a no-trade clause in his contract and didn’t want to leave the Los Angeles Lakers, who acquired Luka Dončić from the Dallas Mavericks.”

“Curry didn’t talk to LeBron about playing together, but the sharpshooter did speak with Durant, according to NBA insiders Ramona Shelburne and Brian Windhorst of ESPN,” Mathur added.
