The Los Angeles Lakers have been on a roll, going 8-2 in their last 10 games and climbing to the fourth seed in the Western Conference with a 37-21 record. In their last four games, they’ve proven they’re even more legitimate, defeating the Denver Nuggets, Dallas Mavericks, Minnesota Timberwolves, and Los Angeles Clippers.
Luka Doncic’s arrival has given them another dynamic offensive weapon, while Dorian Finney-Smith, Jared Vanderbilt, and Gabe Vincent have made significant defensive contributions. Rui Hachimura and Austin Reaves have also stepped up offensively, boosting the team’s overall performance.
It’s been a collective effort, and right now, the Lakers look like they have a legitimate shot at competing for a championship. However, Hall of Famer and current media personality Charles Barkley isn’t convinced. He still doesn’t believe the Lakers are contenders this year.
“I think they’re solid,” Barkley said. “I don’t think they’re a contender. … Listen, man, they were awful to start the season—they’ve been awful for the last two or three years, in fairness. Luka is an upgrade, but I still don’t think they’re on the same level as the [Denver] Nuggets.”
