We’ve seen plenty of stars get a shot with their hometown teams. LeBron James in Cleveland, Dwyane Wade’s brief run in Chicago, Russell Westbrook bouncing between both Los Angeles squads. Could Kevin Durant be next?
Durant is still with the Phoenix Suns, but there’s speculation that this could be his last season there. Teams like the Dallas Mavericks and Houston Rockets are already being mentioned as possible destinations. But what about his hometown team, the Washington Wizards?
Former NBA superstar Carmelo Anthony recently brought up the idea of a hometown reunion. He thinks Durant should bring back the fire in Washington and believes the Wizards finally have the pieces for him to work with, now that they have a mix of veterans and young talent.
Durant doesn’t have full control over where he goes since he’s still under contract for next season, but if a trade comes together, Anthony added that the Wizards moving their pick and other assets for him would be worth it.
“KD to the Wizards,” said Melo. “I would love to see him in the Wizards. That’s just me, personally, with my sh*t. End it back home. You ain’t goin’ to chase, you ain’t gonna go with these other teams that’s out there. You already got your rings.”
Melo wants the Wizards to be KD’s next team
“Go to the Wizards, bring the energy back to DC … give KD his farewell tour after a couple years.”
