Philadelphia 76ers To Explore Trading Paul George This Summer

The Philadelphia 76ers are reportedly preparing to part ways with small forward Paul George after just one season, according to an NBA source cited by Hoops Wire.

“The Philadelphia 76ers will try to trade small forward Paul George this summer, an NBA source told Hoops Wire.”

The decision comes after a disappointing campaign for the team, which currently sits near the bottom of the Eastern Conference standings.

George, who signed a four-year, $212 million contract with the 76ers last summer, has struggled to meet expectations. In 41 games this season, the nine-time All-Star has averaged 16.2 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 4.3 assists per game while shooting 43% from the field. These numbers fall short of the production expected from a player with his salary and pedigree.

The 76ers had hoped that pairing George with franchise cornerstone Joel Embiid would elevate the team to championship contention. However, injuries and inconsistent performances have plagued the roster, leading to a season that has fallen far short of expectations. Some members of the organization reportedly advocated for trading George at the NBA trade deadline, but the team ultimately decided to wait until the offseason. However, George’s hefty contract, which includes a $56.5 million player option for the 2027-28 season, could complicate trade negotiations.
