When the Phoenix Suns put together their big three of Kevin Durant, Devin Booker and Bradley Beal, high expectations followed. Many saw them as a clear powerhouse in the NBA, a team that would cruise into the playoffs and make a deep run.
But so far, that hasn’t happened. Last year, they were eliminated in the first round, and this year, they’re fighting for a spot in the play-in tournament.
The talent is obviously there. Durant and Beal have both been 30-point-per-game scorers and once carried their teams’ offenses. But as Booker knows, talent alone isn’t enough. He’s been through the ups and downs with the Suns and understands what it takes to win more.
Per FOX Sports:
“Talent only gets you so far,” Booker told FOX Sports. “I’ve been on teams with less talent that found ways to get more wins. It’s just the little things. What people always say, the details of the game. Although it sounds like we should know that at this part of our careers, it’s just something you need to form and develop and learn through trial and error.
The Suns have some tough decisions ahead. If they don’t make a serious push this season, they may have to consider trading one or two of their stars and reworking the roster to get back to contender status in the West. The clock is ticking for the most expensive team in the NBA.
