Carlos Boozer On The Post-Luka Mavericks: “Nico Did A Good Job Of Putting A Really Good Team”

After trading away what was supposed to be the team’s future in Luka Doncic for Anthony Davis, Dallas Mavericks general manager Nico Harrison has been on the receiving end of plenty of criticism. And honestly, it’s hard to blame anyone for questioning that decision.

That being said, former NBA power forward Carlos Boozer comes in with a bit of a different take. We all know the team has struggled with injuries, and let’s not forget that Kyrie Irving, who was supposed to help lead the charge, is now out for the rest of the season. Still, Boozer is backing the roster Nico Harrison has put together, believing that this team can contend next season if healthy.

“They have great pieces on that team. Nico did a good job of putting a really good team together for now. So, for next year, they are going to be a contender if they’re healthy.”

The notion that the Mavericks could contend after acquiring Davis has always been on the table. On paper, they have one of the best two-way players in the league, a reliable scorer in Kyrie Irving, a championship veteran in Klay Thompson, and solid role players like PJ Washington, Max Christie, Dereck Lively, and Caleb Martin.

But the real question is whether this is enough to make up for trading away a young superstar who just led the team to the NBA Finals. Public sentiment remains largely negative, but we’ll get a better sense of the team’s future once they’re healthy and Luka’s trajectory becomes clearer.
