LeBron James recently addressed a long-standing internet joke during his appearance on The Pat McAfee Show. The four-time NBA champion and cultural icon clarified that he has, in fact, read all the books he’s been photographed with—even if those photos often show him on the first page.

The lighthearted moment came as McAfee brought up the viral meme that has followed James for years. Fans have frequently pointed out that in many images of James reading books, he appears to be on the very first page. The observation has sparked countless jokes and memes, with some playfully questioning whether James actually finishes the books he starts.

James, however, took the opportunity to set the record straight.

“I’ve read every single one of those books,” he said with a smile. “I know people like to joke about it, but I’m a big reader. I just happen to get photographed at the beginning of the book sometimes. That’s all it is.”

James’ love for reading is well-documented. Over the years, he has spoken about how books have helped him grow as a leader, a teammate, and a person. From biographies of historical figures to works of fiction, James has often turned to literature as a source of inspiration and knowledge. His reading habits became particularly notable during the NBA playoffs, where he was frequently seen with a book in hand as part of his pregame routine.

“I’ve always believed in the power of education and learning,” James explained. “Books have been a way for me to escape, to learn, and to challenge myself. Whether it’s about history, leadership, or just a great story, I’m always looking for something that can help me grow.”

James’ comments also highlight his commitment to promoting literacy and education. Through his LeBron James Family Foundation, he has launched initiatives like the I PROMISE School, which provides resources and support for at-risk youth in his hometown of Akron, Ohio. The school emphasizes the importance of reading and education, reflecting James’ belief in the transformative power of knowledge.
