Marc Lore And Alex Rodriguez Finalize Full Ownership Of Minnesota Timberwolves And Lynx

In a landmark decision that concludes years of legal and financial negotiations, Glen Taylor has agreed to transfer full ownership of the Minnesota Timberwolves and Minnesota Lynx to Marc Lore and Alex Rodriguez. This agreement, which follows a ruling by Minnesota arbitrators in February, marks the end of a prolonged dispute over the sale of the franchises.

The deal, valued at $1.5 billion, was initially agreed upon in 2021. However, complications arose in 2024 when Taylor accused Lore and Rodriguez of breaching the terms of the sale agreement. The disagreement led to arbitration, where a panel ruled in favor of Lore and Rodriguez earlier this year. Taylor has now decided not to appeal the ruling, paving the way for the NBA to begin the ownership transfer process.

The sale includes both the NBA’s Timberwolves and the WNBA’s Lynx, two franchises that have been under Taylor’s stewardship for decades. Taylor, who purchased the Timberwolves in 1994 for $94 million, played a pivotal role in keeping the team in Minnesota during a time when relocation was a looming threat. Under his ownership, the Lynx achieved remarkable success, winning four WNBA championships between 2011 and 2017.

For Lore and Rodriguez, this acquisition represents a significant milestone. The duo initially entered into a three-part purchase agreement, acquiring 36% of the teams in earlier phases. With this final transaction, they will assume 100% ownership, subject to approval by the NBA’s Board of Governors.

This transition signals a new chapter for both franchises. Fans and stakeholders alike will be watching closely as Lore and Rodriguez take the reins, bringing their vision and leadership to the teams. The NBA’s formal approval process is expected to proceed in the coming weeks, marking the official start of this new era in Minnesota sports.
