Golden State Warriors star Draymond Green recently opened up about the emotional toll of Andrew Wiggins’ departure from the team. Speaking on “The Draymond Green Show,” the four-time NBA champion shared how the trade affected not only him but also his family.
“It was weird. You’ve gone to war with the guy for the last, what, five years? And won a championship, built the relationship. My kids cried when they found out Wiggs was gone. There’s just so much more than basketball,” Green revealed during the podcast.
The trade, which sent Wiggins to the Miami Heat as part of a five-team deal involving Jimmy Butler, marked the end of a five-year partnership between Green and Wiggins.
Green’s children were particularly impacted by the news, as they had formed close bonds with Wiggins’ family.
“I told Wiggs, because I saw him right after the deadline and All-Star break, ‘Man, my kids were crying when they found out your girls were gone,’” Green added.

Wiggins’ eldest daughter, Amyah, reportedly expressed sadness over not being able to see her friends anymore, highlighting the deep connections formed off the court.
Wiggins joined the Warriors in 2020 and played a pivotal role in their 2022 championship run. He averaged 16.7 points, 4.7 rebounds, and 2.2 assists per game during his time with Golden State. Green’s candid reflections underscore the emotional complexities of NBA trades, which often disrupt not only professional relationships but also personal ones. While the business of basketball necessitates such moves, the human element remains an integral part of the story.
